The young man was talking to his Girl Friend on his cell phone, walking along!!!! What kind of a threat was that! The young girls heard the shot that killed her friend! Did she hear her young friend try to start something withis MAN? Apparently not! This is a horror story for that child and his family- he is gone and they are grieving in the worst way. Their child was killed by a gunman! All racists do not wear T shirts espousing their Racism! Why on earth would he kill this child if he had a gun and was older, bigger stronger than this youth???!!!!!! This is a horrid story and one that seems prevelant in America where racism is alive and well! It is a SAD and Disgusting event and that child's family are now in terrible grief! Gun Laws in America need to change!!!!!! misty santana

I am a retired Police Sergeant ( in another state) withj 31 years of service. No one is really addressing this issue. Community watch is to observe and notify, not engage a suspected suspicious subject, nor interviene when criminal activity is observed. The shooter in this case was safe in his vehicle when he notified the local police. He was told at least twice (according to 911 tapes) to remain in his vehicleandto wait for the police for who he had called. Once this individual took it upon himself to "play Mr. Policeman" the question of self defense is extremely remote and this argument should be tried in a court of law, not in the opinion of the departmen's police chief. There is enough probable cause for an arrest due to the fact that the shooter chose to engage, rather than waiting on responding officers.
