What was important about Colbert's announcement was him thanking "Citizen's United" at the end. The real purpose of the bit was to satirize the unlimited spending going on and the false concept that spending money is free speech. Since Stephen couldn't coordinate with his own SuperPac, he transferred all power to Jon Stewart.
