– There's one of those esoteric debates going on among conservatives right now. It is deeply under the radar and not very heated. But, it does have lots of emails being traded and a few op-eds percolating up. With President Obama seemingly going to campaign on the moral case for wealth redistribution, taxes, and government, should the GOP respond with the moral case for free markets and capitalism or will the President's rhetoric just fall on its own? The question shapes both who should be the nominee and how the GOP should talk about job creation. The essential issue of Campaign 2012 remains the same — jobs. But, how to frame it is up for debate.

– Senator Roy Blunt won the Senate GOP Conference Vice Chairman position 25 votes to 22 for Senator Ron Johnson. The internal fight pitted conservative groups against the Senate GOP leadership yet again. The fight was a good fight for conservatives even though they lost because it suddenly reminded them there are many more elections to fight over than just a presidential primary.

– The House passed a payroll tax cut extension. It is, in my opinion, strategically stupid to keep extending what will never ever be killed. They should have made it permanent. At the same time, it was strategically smart to put in the Keystone pipeline. Now, the White House and Senate Democrats can kill a private sector job creator and a payroll tax cut at the same time. It'll be on them.
