– What exactly did we create in jobs for September? The number being touted is 103,000 jobs. But of those 103,000 jobs, forty-five thousand were just Verizon workers going back to work after a strike. So really, we only created 58,000. On average, employers have added 72,000 a month over the past few months and we need twice that many just for population growth.

– Interesting, the private sector did do rather well and July and August have been revised upwards. But that begs a question — can the Obama administration take any credit? They blamed the decline on circumstances outside their control. Is growth just because those circumstances went away?

– Perhaps the most detestable media character assassination I have seen in a very long time happened on MSNBC with Lawrence O'Donnell attacking Herman Cain. What an outrage. Just as the attack on Rick Perry over a rock no one can find will help Perry, this will help Cain. In the attack, O'Donnell accuses Herman Cain of sitting out the civil rights movement and accuses Cain's father of some sort of racial cowardice for advising his son how to avoid being attacked during those heated days.

A note from Erick: Yesterday I noted Senator Bill Nelson of Florida was filibustering the jobs bill. My apologies to Senator Nelson of Florida — I've been getting lots of emails from all the Republicans lined up for that Senate race. It was actually Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska who, it was noted on twitter, opposed cloture. Thanks to Senator Nelson's (of Florida's) staff for reaching out and appreciating that this sometimes happens. My apologies to his staff for any heartburn that bullet point might have caused.
