Be in the know: Today's political bullet points

Every day we ask influential politicos to send us their top three bullet points that are driving the day's conversation inside and outside Washington.

Senior Editor of MarioWire.com Mario Solis-Marich:

– Third Way: I have found that GOP Governor Rick Perry and I have something in common: neither one of us agrees with his newly released book...that's what I call bi-partisanship!

– Lost Way: The President finds himself coming up short on enthusiasm and the necessary high approval ratings in the new Latino Decisions poll – can it be true that the Obama campaign's bland top inner circle of path makers doesn’t know everything about everybody???

– Way to the Top: The Republican tea party members of Congress are fighting the payroll tax cut extension sought by Democrats – note to White House: add a tax credit sweetener for the nation wealthiest to the deal and watch it sail through Congress.

RedState.Com Editor Erick-Woods Erickson:

– USA Today reports President Obama will include two things in his jobs plan. (A) subsidization of engineering degrees in the United States and (B) construction work to upgrade buildings to green buildings. The first won't actually create jobs, but will drive up the cost of education and the second will only create temporary jobs to subsidize an industry even the New York Times says doesn't not produce jobs.

– Gallup is out with new polling that suggests, along with Rasmussen and PPP, that Rick Perry is in the lead. Here's the problem I see with this. He has only been in a couple of weeks so this may be just a bounce and he has not participated in any presidential debates. How will we know he is the front runner? If the other candidates start piling on Romney to try to get into second place. Romney has thus far escaped much cross fire in the debates. We'll find out September 12th live on CNN.

– Hurricane Irene is headed for New York City. Considering subways in New York flood in heavy rain and stop working in hot weather, folks might want to head on up to Vermont right now.
