I work in Law Enforcement & travel to Africa extensively. What amazes me is kids in African nations, some of the poorest counties in the world, go out of their way to get to school. I meet these kids and their English is better than my own. They are eager to learn to get ahead. Now, I see the same here with many youth in the black community. They too are striving to better themselves. What this displays to me is this mob mentality is not so much to do with poverty. I agree with the Mayor. Yes, I just see employers lining up to hire these folks wearing pants down to their knees or saying "U feel me" every other line or "can I ax you a question" The fact is, we all make choices, even the youth of this country. Maybe its time to invest in our youth who want to learn or grow. I'm tired of hearing "you all did this to me" This isn't even a race issue. It comes down to those who do and those who don't. I've seen too many black youth attend programs in our county jails who are succeeding, growing and learning and even they will tell you, some would just rather steal, hang and do nothing. Again those who do and those who dont. If any white, Asian or Hispanic Mayor had dried the same of the black youth in Phillie, they'd be called a racist, and some black community members are offended with the Mayor. And we wonder why the problems exists.

If every politician, administrator and parent would be as realistic, genuine and direct our society just might stand a chance. I have a newfound admiration for Michael Nutter and his capability to not play people, politics or games. He said it as it is...something that shouldn't be so rare anymore.
