– The Democrats intend to make hay out of the GOP's walkout from the debt talks. The GOP is refusing to get rid of the Bush tax cuts. But here's the catch - until the recession, even with the Bush tax cuts, revenue has been fairly constant since the 1980s. Only 3 times in American history has revenue gotten to 20% of GDP. It averages 18%. But spending continues going up. The Bush tax cuts are insignificant, but repeal could cause further recessionary problems. Even the President has admitted that.

– Senator Jim DeMint is making noises that he may primary incumbent Republicans who vote to raise the debt ceiling without securing significant spending cuts. This will hopefully add more fuel to the fire of conservatives willing to pick a fight on this issue.

– The attacks are already coming fast and furious on Governor Rick Perry of Texas. If you believe articles in publications as diverse as Politico to New York Magazine, Perry is a womanizing homosexual who executes innocent men who killed their children while giving highway contracts to his friends who opposed him for re-election. None of it makes sense. It has all been discredited. But that the attacks are out there now without him even getting into the race shows just how much Democrats and potential Republican rivals fear him as a Presidential candidate.
