Republican Debt Ceiling Power Play Would Stand Constitution on its Head.

RedState.Com Editor Erick-Woods Erickson:

– Any reporter, Democrat, or Republican who says a failure to raise the debt ceiling will result in a default by the nation either does not know what they are talking about or is lying. As Senator Pat Toomey has repeatedly pointed out, the United States brings in tax revenue equal to ten times the amount of debt service required. In fact, debt service costs amount to just six percent of the federal government's monthly tax revenue.

– An amazing CBS News poll shows that massive numbers of Republicans and Independents are opposed to an increase in the debt ceiling and 48% of Democrats are opposed too.

– Seven in ten Americans oppose raising the debt ceiling even if it means paying higher interest rates.
