Everyday we ask influential politicos to send us their top three bullet points that are driving the day's conversation in and outside Washington.
Happy Friday everyone. In the campaign, we had an “I’m you,” refrain from Christine O’Donnell. Today, in the post-campaign period of spin and repositioning, we got this from Speaker Nancy Pelosi in an NPR interview: “It isn’t about me.” Next week she wields the gavel for one last session. It will be worth watching. Whatever you think of her politics, she is a historic figure, and a tenacious fighter. This caught my eye today in the Wall Street Journal: Erskine Bowles, the former Clinton White House chief of staff and now the co-chairman of the Obama deficit commission has a dim view of the outreach by a president who promised to be different and try to work with Republicans. Says Bowles: “I told people in the White House I had spent more time listening to people in the opposition party than they had as a whole group.”
On to the bullet points: Erick spends his Friday observations looking ahead at the leadership and image challenges for the newly emboldened GOP. He has a dim view of the TSA, as you see. I have some least favorite airports, but overall I see decent people trying to do a tough and thankless job. Jane uses No. 3 to cast Florida’s governor elect in a Harry Potter tale. Her No. 1 is the new vehicle for an old complaint of the left: that this Democratic president seems too eager to yield. Suffice to say the White House thinks some of its liberal critics are, to borrow a phrase, professional cranks. Politics is a funny business. Enjoy the weekend. – John King

– Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has a new book coming out. Let the 2012 speculation begin. Just like with Rick Perry. But I doubt Gov. Jindal runs. Full disclosure: the sister company to RedState, Regnery, published Jindal's book and mine.
– First official challenge to Michael Steele: Saul Anuzis, the former Michigan GOP Chairman.
– John Boehner will be flying commercial. How much better will TSA perform with a Speaker subjected to them like the rest of us?
