Be in the know: Today's political bullet points

Everyday we ask influential politicos to send us their top three bullet points that are driving the day's conversation in and outside Washington:

Have to admit it’s hard to focus on my calls and emails because of the dramatic pictures from Chile. Joy for life and family is powerful stuff, an inspiration and maybe a good reminder as we set our daily compass. Last night after the show I got my first glimpse at John Wall the Washington Wizard. Great energy and passion for the game. Basketball will be more fun In Washington this year. That much we know. On the way out of the preseason game, a Democratic strategist told me of new urgency to protect several Democratic House incumbents in New York state. Tells you a lot about how the national map is tilting 20 days out. Jane and Erick are also studying the map – and their points today are telling. Consider Jane’s first: mad at Karl Rove in No. 1 and President Obama in No. 3.The left is agitated in more ways than one. And from the right: Erick takes issue with the loud but unproven complaints from the White House about “foreign money” in his No. 3, and in his first and second points are good snapshots of the current state of play. Enjoy the day. – John King

RedState.Com Editor Erick-Woods Erickson:

– Democratic strategists I've talked to are a bit concerned that the polls are not tightening as quickly as they did in 1994.

– Democrat Jim Marshall in Georgia and Bill Owens in New York have hit on a novel campaign strategy. They both vote with Boehner +60% of the time.

– Barack Obama is to the Chamber of Commerce as the Birthers are to Obama's birth certificate. It is easier to accept a conspiracy than accept rejection by the voters.

Firedoglake.com Blogger/Founder Jane Hamsher:

– Karl Rove says it's unfair to point out he's laundering millions for unknown corporations and rich people.

– If huge corporations can buy elections and pretend to be "persons," why do we need voters and elections?
