New York Times reporter on "Being Glenn Beck"

A brand new profile of Fox News commentator Glenn Beck captures the phenomenon he's created in one elegant sentence. "In record time, Beck has traveled the loop of curiosity, to ratings bonanza, to self-parody, to sage." The sentence and the profile, was written by the New York Times National Political reporter, Mark Leibovich.

Be in the know: Today's political bullet points

Welcome to October – the month of election surprises. I had an interesting chat with Democratic Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia today, who believes the election climate might be a little different if President Obama had scaled back his health care ambitions and focused on the economy and jobs almost exclusively out of the box. Today’s bullet points: Jane’s third point about Pakistan is a reminder of a major foreign policy challenge that could become a major issue in the final weeks of the campaign. Foreign policy so far has been largely off the radar. But worth watching. Erick in point Nos. 1 and 3 has tough messages for his own party’s more established – and establishment figures. Early evidence the internal tensions won’t go away even if the GOP has a big Election Day. Enjoy the weekend. -John King

Everyday we ask influential politicos to send us their top three bullet points that are driving the day's conversation in and outside Washington:

RedState.Com Editor Erick-Woods Erickson:

– Senator John Thune, the Senate establishment's pick for POTUS 2012, blew his potential campaign up. A man known for much of nothing other than good looks, tea party activists now know him as a man who bashed Jim DeMint on the record and sided with Lisa Murkowski on the issue of keeping her Senate seat? What's as tan as John Thune? Toast.

-Does Barack Obama really want to make analogies to freeing the slaves ? Perhaps he should take his and his Veep's own advice: Buck up and quit whining.

-The potential 2012 POTUS slate for the GOP has a problem. They aren't giving to tea party candidates who won Senate races. Blogger/Founder Jane Hamsher:
