Be in the know: Today's political bullet points

Every day we ask influential politicos to send us their top three bullet points that are driving the day's conversation inside and outside Washington.

RedState.Com Editor Erick-Woods Erickson:

- As Rick Perry gets closer to an announcement about a possible Presidential bid, there is a growing chorus of "he sounds too much like George W. Bush." If that's the best the opposition can do, Perry is probably going to be President.

- Speaking of Perry, my website, RedState.com, has its annual gathering in August. This year it will be in Charleston, SC the weekend of August 14th. Guess who's coming to speak? And yes, that is the same weekend as the Ames straw poll.

- The situation is Libya is turning out badly for all sides. The President is angering his base. The Republicans are divided on what to do. It seems the situation is at stalemate. Perhaps, just perhaps, in his zeal to shore up his national security bona fides after the Osama bin Laden killing, President Obama overreached.

Senior Political Columnist for TheDailyBeast.com John Avlon:

- Jon Huntsman Declares: Conservative activists and consultants are quick to count the current center-right standard-bearer out, but in my column today on The Daily Beast, I lay out a long-shot path to the nomination for Huntsman. - Neo-Isolationism: Sen. John McCain blasted the isolationist impulses that are surfacing in the GOP, between the 2012 candidates running away from the Bush doctrine to the 87 congressional votes for Kucinich's Libya resolution. This is a troubling resurgence of an old impulse in American politics.

- Right to Work, front and center: With 37% of new jobs created in Texas and Governor Perry considering a run for president, the debate over Right to Work states is going to be a 2012 theme. Another pressing case – the NLRB's attempt to block Boeing's new plant in the primary state of South Carolina, this issue is not going away.
