474 Miles. Last week, from Sunday through Thursday our caravan traveled that distance: three SUVs loaded with gear and one 45 foot bus.
Viewers of John King, USA are very familiar with the CNN Election Express from our trips through the Gulf covering the oil spill and Arizona for a special on immigration. But, the one person you haven't met is Dale Fountain.
Honestly, Dale's job description doesn't exactly fit his job. Since 2003, Dale has driven the Election Express in circles around the lower 48. He has been a commercial driver since 1994 and has over a million and a half miles under his right foot.
But, for all those miles, Dale is CNN's ambassador and first journalist on site. At every stop, Dale's smile and graciousness may be the only CNNer that you will encounter. But, he is renowned company wide as one of the MVPs. He doesn't just drive the bus, he's the heart of the operation.
While we were in Kentucky, we turned the camera on the shy Mr. Fountain and asked him about life on the road. The man didn't take a vacation from June of 2007 through the end of the election in 2008. And we wanted you to get to know him better.
